Yes, the Christmas thing gets to be a bit much but I loved seeing how your house was decorated. Do what makes you feel good. I get super excited when I see you have a new post. Always love to read your wise words. :) I have steered clear of the house tours with 20 some odd participants this year. I have a feeling some of that will lessen next year...just thinking aloud here. We have a messy dining room and kitchen at the moment, and we have one tree decorated. That's it for now. But, I would have liked to have had more done by today. Tooooo much sickness this year. I do love Christmas - the beautiful decorations everywhere...the gorgeous music....the yummy food....and the extra spirit of giving. There is that "other side" - the commercialism, the rushing, the "overwhelmingness." It is easy to have that grab you, and I have to keep my eye out for that. I think everyone should choose their level of participation that affords them the most JOY. Less is more for some. More is more for others. Sort of like weddings I guess! LOL Anyway, it all boils down to this for me - It is the time to celebrate the ultimate gift God made to everyone - His son. If I could have Christmas all year I would love it. If nothing more, the gorgeous music of The First Noel by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir would help me remember that gift every.single.day. May your Christmas Day be filled with ALL good things, Jill. I am so over the "tours, the "Christmas" outfits" and the gift lists. I happened onto your blog (for the first time) from another blog and read your comments and thought, boy, you couldn't have reflected my feelings any more accurate if you tried!! Thank-you, your comments made me feel that I am not the only out there so sick of the commercialism of Christmas. I also get the impression that many bloggers feel compelled to write those kind of entries because if they don't people won't visit their sites. I feel sad for them. I enjoyed your gallery wall, I am attempting to finish one off in our family room and love the inspiration. I love your blog. Sometimes things are so "perfect". I don't even have my tree up yet. A daughter coming home Wednesday expects at least that. There is not decor in every room and I having been waiting for a sunny day for candy making. I like to slow things down and remember Jesus is the reason for the season. Thank you. I especially like to hear about your soccer daughter and her accomplishments. Both of my daughters (now married) were excellent athletes and now coach girls basketball in separate states, I know what you mean about all the practices, games in crummy conditions, highs and lows, but I wouldn't have changed it for the world. I loved this post, please continue with your current blogging format, it is what keeps me coming back. Your blog is in my favorites, right at the top. I...Jill, I understand where you're coming from. I like the "real" bloggers like you. I don't go all out in my Christmas decorating. I just posted about one of my favorite Christmas decorations: a simple Nativity scene. Every time I see it I am comforted. For me and my husband, Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Christ. I enjoy listening to Christmas music, putting a wreath on the door and decorating a tree. But we don't exchange gifts anymore and it is SO liberating. I read daily Advent reflections, to keep the focus on the real meaning of Christmas and get excited about attending midnight Mass on Christmas eve (not about attending parties or what gifts I'm going to get). I hope you have a peaceful holiday, and I look forward to more of your posts in the new year.<br />ClaudiaMy Little Bungalowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17661291354573889109noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1715033476859637506.post-72868707447587643152014-12-19T13:27:59.411-08:002014-12-19T13:27:59.411-08:00Thank you Helena,

The last few years I've done less and less and it's been liberating! Who cares if I have a tree decorated to the n-th degree and who has time (or money) to put 3-4 or more trees up?! More power to them but I hope they are enjoying their family time which is the most important thing to me. Well, I'll get off my soap box now and wish you a very Merry Christmas! I know people are only sharing (and I certainly have a choice if I want to read their blogs or not), but somehow it all feels so contrived now. I remember growing up and thought our house was so beautiful at Christmas and all my mom and dad did was put up the tree, hang a wreath on the front door, put out the Nativity set, and hang our stockings! But it was BEAUTIFUL! I think we should go back to that time...less is more!!
