{a peek of the peak}

This is the time of year that all us midwest gardeners get rewarded for all the patient and diligent work in our gardens...our gardens are at their peak!

I always have mixed emotions. On one hand, my yard is at it's best. The neighbors ooh and ahh over my hosta lined front walkway, the enormous hydrangea blooms on my mature Annabelle's and my friends love to receive bouquets freshly cut from the gardens.

But when you live in Minnesota, like I have for the last three summers, you know that a garden's peak signifies the beginning of the end, so to speak.

It's all down hill from here....

winter is waiting in the wings....urgh!

But before there is nothing but a big white blanket in my cottage yard, I thought I would share some of my reward with you....cause no cottage would be complete without a garden, if I may say so myself.

By the way, this is my 200th post! So completely, hard to believe.

  1. Here in Maryland we have peaked and gone down with blazing heat. My yard is a mess and no rain in site. It is nice to see a garden in full bloom.

  2. Your garden is lovely. I think mine is ready to start dwindling down.

    But, I still love fall.

  7. CONGRATULATIONS Jill on your 200th post....Your flowers are BEAUTIFUL....Coming from a pretty warm climate (compared to yours!) where our gardens bloom year round, I can understand how bittersweet it must be for you to have your garden looking so lush when you know it's so short lived.... :o(

Oh....Does this mean it will be cold when I come for the Junk Bonanza....??

    Cheers from Oz,
    Tamarah :o)

  10. Congrats on your 200th, Jill! :)

Well, here in Michigan, with our extremely hot and humid summer we've been having - my garden is certainly on the downhill slide. :( So sad to see...June is my fav month here when everything is really green and happily blooming. This time of year, those poor plants seem to begin to fade and wilt. Time to get out more plant food, I guess! lol!

  12. i love your white blanket!
    & enjoy the peak.

my hydrangeas are slap wore out from all our heat, they are pitiful!
i wish there was a place where each of the four seasons was splendid & "just right"

  13. Your flowers are beautiful. While we do not have the long winters that you do, thank God! We do however living in California, have heat that surpasses the 100 mark on more days than I care to think about. My yard peaks in early June, and then promptly wilts and dries up. Well not completely dries up, I just invest a huge chunk of money with the water department to keep my flowers blooming. Any how congratulations on your 200th blog~~
    blessings to you and yours
